Whether you've been married for a year, twenty years, or even over fifty, there's something about the way you planned your wedding that stands out.

Some of it was good and at other times, you couldn't stand it, and it's this duality in emotion that gets hammered out in films to watch that depict the whole matrimonial process. No one likes being left out, but the things that happen when planning nuptials are just something that single folks can't fully understand.

It's supposed to be the happiest time of your life, and when it's all said and done, it most certainly is. However, to say that the process of getting hitched is happy throughout would be less than honest. There's so much going on and so much to do, it feels as though you're physically being pulled in every direction at once.

Your emotions are at their breaking point, your bank account is being bled dry, and everyone has an opinion about everything. It's no wonder that so many people just elope because the worst you have to deal with is having an Elvis impersonator as your officiant.

Then again, there really is something so great about dealing with all of the pain-in-the-backside stuff and finding refuge in your soon-to-be spouse's arms.

If you're in the middle of planning your wedding, or maybe you've just started, here are a list of movies you need to check out:

Father of the Bride - We often hear that it's the bride's day and that no one else matters in the planning.

Turns out there are a lot of people directly affected by the upcoming nuptials, especially the father who'll be giving away his daughter. This movie has tons of heart, but the laughs are glorious.

My Best Friend's Wedding - Few movies capture the raw emotion that comes with weddings like this one.
You'll be hard-pressed to not shed tears for the majority of this film, but it is a cathartic movie worth a million views.

Sex and the City - The TV series was vapid and infuriatingly bleh, but the wedding sequences in the full feature-length film are honest and heartfelt.

Moreover, we finally see a sense of humanity emit from the characters.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding - Family means everything when it comes to getting married, and sometimes our families are a little on the embarrassing side.

This movie was a classic from the start, and shows just how tough & beautiful finding lasting love can be.

Bridesmaids - We don't often realize that weddings are more than just a union of two people - they are a test to many relationships forged much earlier.
Family ties and friendships can often be strained for silly reasons during the planning of a wedding, and few films inject as much humor and heart as this one.

You may not think it, but sometimes having a few films to watch about the very thing you are going through can actually give you some peace of mind about everything.

Getting married is not easy. Yes, the actual ability to say, "I do" is quick and painless, but it's everything else that makes it a nightmare sometimes. Sitting back with your sweetheart and watching a movie about the insanity that is getting hitched may be the best way to navigate the whole thing.
